Our Free trip to HAWAII

Oh the time of year has come again when I thank my lucky stars that I have the job I do. Not too many other girls go on a fab free trip each year just for working their normal job. This year instead of a cruise, Stampin' Up! sent us on a LAND TRIP, to the awesome Waikoloa Village resort on the big island of Hawaii. Oh, the life! Here is the view from our Deluxe King Ocean View room. We are above the golf course, and the deep blue Pacific is over my right shoulder. *sigh*
Funny story: When we arrived we were checking out our room and could hear a strange bird calling over and over again. Finally we went out on the deck to check it out. It was not a bird. The Japanese woman next door was trapped on her balcony (locked out of her room) and was crying out for help. We called and got someone from the hotel staff to go through her room and open her balcony door to let her in. She was so grateful that she brought us a box of chocolates and cookies the next day. She said a whole bunch of stuff when she gave me the box (all in Japanese) and I assume she meant "thank you." I wish I'd known how to say "we thought you were a bird" in Japanese.

Just a few shots of the unbelievable resort we are staying at!

Many of the beaches look like a mix of sandiness and old lava flow. It is such an interesting place. The big island is where you'll find black sand beaches and green sand beaches, from all the strange mixes of lava/sediment.

More at the Waikoloa

One of the best things about these trips is that I am there with some of my best buddies! This time there were 8 from my group and their spouses, plus some other very very good friends too. We got together for a swap, here are the cute "wow" cards we came away with.

We spent one entire day renting a car and sightseeing with Marc & Candice Anderson. One of the beautiful places we saw was Akaka Falls.

So amazing--the walls all around were just green with moss and growth. So different than the falls at Yellowstone I have visited.

One of the other things we did was visit this beautiful botanical garden. The vegetation in Hawaii is just crazy gorgeous, and here was a huge concentration of it.

Candice and Marc--who was one of the craziest drivers I have ever ridden with.

Parts of this garden felt like we were in the middle of the jungle--and so we were!
I just LOVED the orchid section of the garden. I love orchids and fear trying to keep them alive in my Utah home. And here they are just growing out of the ground! wow. So gorgeous. They had a whole area dedicated to Orchids.

As always, Stampin' Up! spoiled the heck out of us! This is one of the pillow gifts we got-it was filled with treats. We also received Hawaiian sarongs, bags, and of course stamps!

SU had a "hospitality room" where we could see projects and enter drawings, plus "spin the wheel" of prizes every day. So fun!

Look who won an exclusive red 8-gig iPod engraven with the Stampin' Up! logo!! I can never again say "I never win anything"! I did not already have an iPod, so it was perfect for me to win this! 20 out of 400 people got these. Actually 3 out of 8 in my group won one of these! Lucky group!

Here we are at the SU event night! There was awesome food and entertainment, and hanging out with friends.

Cute little hula dancers entertained us

Crazy tiki dudes slightly frightened us...we had a great time hanging out with everyone.

Hawaiian wildlife:
Cute squeaking dolphins...
And their friends!!

All colors of fish to swim alongside you...
And sea turtles wandering onshore to say 'hi'.

After the Big Island trip was over, most of us went to Oahu and spent a few extra days. It was wonderful! One of the days we went to Waimea and swam in the pool below the waterfall. The picture doesn't seem too exciting, but believe me it was!
Behind the waterfall there was a tiny inlet like a little cave. If you were brave (and I was!) you could fight the waterfall and surge through it and then sit behind it and see the waterfall from behind. SO AWESOME!

Me, Melanie and Sherri--Posing by the Waimea scenery! :) Deborah, Mindy and Candice were all on Oahu too--doing other things that day.

One day we drove all around Oahu and saw the sights. You can't see it super well but this is the "blowhole" where the ocean splashes up from below the rock and sprays out a hole on the rocky shelf. It's nifty.

We stopped to hang out at Lanikai beach--just as it kind of got windy. First we stopped at Ted's Bakery and got some yummies. John chose to enjoy his on the beach. Anytime is a good time for eclairs.

Randy decided to go cliff diving at North Shore, but Melmel came with us. We were so glad!!

Last day in Hawaii!
We decided to go to the Pearl Harbor area. What an amazing, humbling experience. It was a great way to end our trip.
This is all that is left poking out of the water from the USS Arizona.

In 1950 they raised a flag again on the flagpole on the Arizona.

Inside the museum that had the bell and anchor and other parts from several of the ships, including the Arizona.

After touring the memorial we went to a swap meet and bought tons of cheap souvenirs!
It was such a wonderful, unforgettable trip. Thank you Stampin' up!

Surprise party!

Chantia and I have been hard at work for a couple of weeks planning a fun party for mom's 50th birthday. As you all know, our mom has cancer and is going through chemotherapy. Plus it's her 5oth birthday so we had to do something special. We planned a surprise party at Magelby's Restaurant in Provo. They pulled out all the stops, giving us our own room to use and letting us come early to decorate.

The waitress even made this cute sign for the door.

She thought she was just meeting us for dinner. We had told all the guests to be there at 4:30, and told her to meet us at Magelby's at 5. First we really had to convince her to even go, she just was not feeling well. Then on the way there she tried to talk Carl into going to Red Lobster instead!! :) We really had to work hard to make her be there at the right time and the right place!

Realizing it's a full-blown party! SURPRISE!!!

There are about 65 people there. She spent the first while just looking and looking around at everyone who was there. All her siblings were there with their spouses, people from work, people from stamping groups, family, friends...even Tami who lives out in California made the trek. Everyone signed a book for her and had their pictures taken. I have been about as swift getting it all finished as I am with my blog updates. Sorry mom! :(
I think she was most surprised to have both her parents there. It has been a long time since they both made the journey from Logan together.
David sang and entertained everyone.

Carl sang too, the same song he did for their wedding day. It was really touching.

Happy 50th Birthday mom! We love you!!!

Aloha!

We found out our ward is going to be splitting in a few weeks, so as Activities Chair, we had to throw one last bash for the PG 5th ward. We held the coolest luau in a gym ever, if I do say so myself.
Unfortunately I was so crazy busy the whole night I hardly had any chance for pics. We had a fish pond with a huge handpainted ocean as the curtain...we had authentic Hawaiian food made by some frends and fam of ward members...we had real hawaiian dancers that were awesome and involved the audience onstage too...we had tons of decor and favors.
Our kids were in charge of greeting everyone at the door and handing out leis. We asked everyone to dress up and had some that did great! We gave out pineapples for the prizes.

The hostess with the mostest...

Some of our awesome decorations. :)

Our dancers, the daughters of Laie

This photo-op was a hit! It was actually quite racy so John and I "dressed" the people with carefully cut out and glued on Designer Series Paper!

Stampin' Fun!

Just a few stamping activities that have been going on--this is me organizing and swapping out the cards from our "swap through the mail" for our stamping group. A huge job, but worth it!

Here are some of the awesome cards we received.

This was our "Shoebox Swap" held last month in Paradise. This is Melody, Christy, LeAnn, Mindy and Nicole stampin' their hearts out.

Mandy and Natalie enjoy the potluck dinner-salad bar, yum!

More Stampin' Fun! Sarah, Kelly, Janice, Candice, Marlys.

Here are the cards we got to make that night. My stamping girls are so amazing at creating!

Tonight was a "Business Builders" meeting in Kaysville at Ashley's house. We talked specifically about building our businesses.
One fun activity was a 3D item share. We each brought one and did show-n-tell. Then we played a white elephant type game to trade them. So fun. Great projects!! These are just some of them:
Made by Jan Johnson

Made by Krystal Whitaker

Made by Becky Garvey

Made by Heather Stevens

Made by Melanie Williams--a travel jewelry holder. So clever!!
Made by Sherri Robinson

Then we also made a few fun projects...
Becky, Brenda, Jane, Megan, Sharle, Amber, Heather, Natalie, Kasia. Just a few of my favorite stampers!

Ashley and Sherri, takin' time to say cheese!
